May Update

I want to give everyone a quick update on where we stand for the skatepark:

1. Fundraising: We've applied for Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, WalMart, Burger King and Goodies grants. We should hear something back by the end of May. We're in the process of applying for Krogers and Food Lion grants too. We hope to raise a much needed $10,000 to be able to officially open the park for the summer. We need new ramps, insurance and fencing.

2. Park Opening: We had wanted to build new ramps in May and reopen officially in June. Without the grant money, we'll be unable to do that. So, it looks like it will be late June before we can open the park. We wait.

3. Other News: First Baptist Church off 127 near the hospital will be opening an indoor skatepark as soon as theycan purchase some ramps. They already have a skate area built as part of their church gym. So, you'll be able to skate there until the Association's park is up. Call Terry May if you have questions.

4. New Laws?: I've been hearing a rumor that the Crossville City Council passed an ordinance stating that if police catch skaters skating in an area with a No Skating sign, their boards will be confiscated and broken. Yikes! I'm not sure this is a legal ordinance. I've contacted Councilman Loggins about it, but he has not returned my call. I feel this is an excessive way to deal with skaters given the fact the city has not provided any place for us to practice AT ALL.
