Latest News

A lot has been going on with the skatepark over the last two weeks, so I’ll dive right in:

  • MEETING WITH CITY ARCHITECTS: Pat and I met with the city architects and Councilman Loggins last week. We outlined the skatepark requirements and gave them some skatepark examples based on your input the week before. They were very receptive and Councilman Loggins asked the architect to research potential park builders and designs.
  • CITY PUTS SKATEPARK ON 2005 GOALS: According to WoW 102.5 News “A long awaited and anticipated skate park in Crossville took a large step to reality this morning when the Crossville City Council included it in the goals for this year. Mayor J.H. Graham III says that he spoke to numerous people in favor for the park and wanted to take a look at addressing the issue. Other cities in Tennessee have skate parks or ones in the designing phases. It is estimated that the park could run the city up to $100,000 dollars.”
  • CHRISTMAS PARADE A SUCCESS: All the hard work on the Christmas parade paid off. Here is a quote from the Chronicle: “ One project that appeared to be left out but now may be gaining a second look is the construction of a skate park for line skaters and skateboard enthusiasts. Grahm noted that the large number of skateboarders participating in the Christmas parade were an indication that there is serious support for the support. ‘It is not a passing fad, as I once thought,’ said Graham. ‘It is not going away.’ Loggins agreed.
  • EXCHANGE CLUB TALK: Pat and I were asked to speak at the Exchange Club of Crossville. We received a warm reception and a lot of support. Former long-time State Representative Shirley Duer was very supportive of the effort and said that the community needed to get behind the effort. You can read the talk online here>> More to come…
  • NEED WINTER WAREHOUSE: We are in need of a warehouse or indoor facility to skate during the winter. If anyone knows a facility we could use for 2 hours per week on Fridays from 5-7, please contact me at 484.1171.

Next Meeting: Friday, Feb 11 at 5pm at Cumberland Worship Center (across from the VF factory outlet and behind the BP off Genesis RD). We are going to watch skate videos (one made locally and another that has a Christian message). We’ll also be looking at the space where we will build the temporary park this spring.
