B L A N K | Design's Heart and Soul

1.01.2006

The End

2005 marks the end of the first year for B L A N K, and we've just begun our journey into the heart and soul of design. We've picked the brains of designers like J.R. Mahon and Mark Arnold and chewed on the thoughts of Brian Sooy, Paul Rustand, Brad Dicharry and other designers (who wish to remain nameless). We've scoured books on Tibor Kalman, Stefan Sagmeister, flipped through magazines like Worthwhile and tried on shoes. We've ventured into the business side of design with Daniel Pink and discovered the whole new breed of designpreneur. We've delved into the connection between call, passion, faith and design and seen some powerful examples of design that touches the heart. We even heard from the big man himself. We've gone to conferences hunting for insight, followed the life of a designer each week (Mollie, are you still out there?) and tried woefully to reach into the community for good with design. In the process, we've made some people mad, others curious and the rest plain bored. Through it all we hope to have inspired and helped you find a little more meaning and purpose in design.

So, what's ahead for 2006? We're not into resolutions, so here is what we want to accomplish in the New Year on B L A N K:

- Design That Touches the Heart online show this Spring.
- A redesign of the B L A N K website to give you more voice.
- A call for more writers and contributors (please contact us if you're interested).
- Design sketchbook: A place where you can share with others your rough thoughts and inspiration.
- A 9Rules type network for B L A N K.
- An of course more articles, reviews and discussions that explore the heart and soul of design.

Thanks to all who bravely (foolishly?) journeyed with us. On and up in 2006.
