Life Lines: Putting Things Off

I've recently had a renewed amazement of the forefathers of the United States of America. They did so many things and were good at all of them! One of the best examples is Benjamin Franklin. As my brother is preparing to audition for the role of Ben Franklin in a children's theater production of "1776", I've been reminding him of all of the great things this man said and did. One example I gave was how many of the things we say every day that come from him, such as "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today." Many people have flipped this quote around, but my brother came back at me with my favorite rendition. Doing his best impression of Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants, he said, "Don't do today what you can put off 'till tomorrow!"

I suppose we all do this from time to time, but this week it's felt (sadly) like I've lived by this phrase. I allowed myself to be distracted by things other than the work that needed to get done. Some of the things were bigger, like going to the museum with my family (my extra hands were needed to "wrangle" children). Some were smaller, like running errands or getting extra sleep. And some were simply unavoidable, like going to my cousin's wedding. The point is, I should have planned my time better, and gotten things done as soon as was possible.

But after all of that delay, the good news is, deadlines were met. All of the small jobs were completed and sent off, even if it was in the wee hours. And that big project I got last week? I made it through the first part. It just required getting it into gear at the end of the week. The things I wanted to do for myself got pushed to the back (again), but I did manage to find a place to host my portfolio website. You know, once I get to that. There's one other thing I put off, and that's the class I'm taking. So now, I'm off to squeeze in some studying.

And I promise...I'll be better about managing my time...next week.

Life Lines is a first hand look at life after leaving a full time job and deciding to follow God given passions and dreams.
