Please Fill in the B L A N K
For the last year I’ve observed a spiritual stirring among professionals in the design community to do more than design cool stuff or help companies pad pockets. Although few have come up with more than products, posters, t-shirts or the like to support a cause, many folks are exploring, dialoging and experimenting with the heart and soul of design. In various ways I’ve heard designers ask questions that make me wonder what God is doing in the design community, and what He is calling us to do. How will we reveal the invisible Presence in our work in tangible, visible ways? How will we speak Life into our culture through the design profession and extend His kingdom presence? There are many questions to explore, and many voices to hear.
I once heard that the hardest thing to do is start. Beginning something requires one to overcome internal resistance and fears to create the “not yet”. That’s where I find myself. Wanting to explore what God is doing in design, yet lacking a connected Christian community to do so effectively. So, I’m starting with B L A N K: an online community web blog to discuss, stimulate and encourage exploration into the heart and soul of design from a Christian perspective. B L A N K will plunge headlong into this journey by asking questions, recording thoughts, having conversations and showing works of designers that bring vision and clarity to this movement.
Please take a moment and check out the B L A N K website. You’ll find there’s intentionally not much there. We need your help to fill in B L A N K as you feel led. Join the B L A N K blog community (it’s free) and share your thoughts, write articles, show relevant work, ask questions, recommend materials and connect with others of like Spirit. We’re informal in our approach and open to all design disciplines. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional, student, faculty member or just really bored, we’d love to have you contribute. You may have one thought or many. Contribute frequently or just observe.
If you want to try B L A N K out, please send an email to frank@b-l-a-n-k.com. I’ll set up an account on B L A N K and you can start immediately. Blogging is painless and there are some brief instructions on the site. Please pass this site along to others (students, faculty and colleagues) that may be interested as well.
